Mozambique is a southeastern African nation known for its long Indian Ocean coastline, rich cultural diversity, and complex post colonial history. The country covers about 801,590 km squared and has a population of roughly 34 -35 million, with Maputo as its capital and largest city. Portuguese is the official language, while numerous Bantu languages are widely spoken. Mozambique's coastline along the Mozambique Channel provides some of Africa's best natural harbors and supports a growing tourism sector with white sand beaches and marine biodiversity. Historically, the region hosted Swahili trading towns between the 7th and 11th centuries before coming under Portuguese rule in the early 16th century. After gaining independence in 1975, Mozambique endured a prolonged civil war until 1992, which significantly hindered development. Today, the country remains rich in natural resources and agricultural potential but continues to face economic and political challenges as it works toward stability and growth.
