Airport Rating

Also known as Mavalane International Airport, formerly Lourenço Marques Airport.

Before Security Smoking

Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminals.

After Security Smoking

2026, May update from Andrea D.: The smoking room is close to Gate 1 after the passport control for international flights, on the left of a lounge. The ventilation is excellent, so the room doesn't smell. There's a shop/cafè selling cigarettes (rather overpriced). The Shop personal behave like you have to order something, but an espresso for 150 MTQ (about €2) isn't a big deal.

MPM smoking

Update to post below from Hugo P, March 2020. There is no 20USD entrance charge at the smoking lounge. It is a 20USD fine for spitting. updating on a previous comment. Pic also below:

Update from Jonathon B. on the 9th April 2019: Best smoking room I've ever been in. Has a bar and cool music. Good air con so not smelly. Well done Mozambique!

Update from Steve P. on the 20th Sept 2019: Although there is an area for smokers where you can enjoy a cigarette and a drink, there is a notice on the door stating that there is a 20 USD "entrance" charge, which is really excessive. Rather check-in, have the last cigarette outside and leave going through passport control to the last minute.

Maputo International Airport (IATA: MPM), also known as Mavalane International Airport, is Mozambique’s largest and busiest air gateway, located about 3 km northwest of central Maputo. It serves as the primary hub for LAM Mozambique Airlines and handles mostly African regional routes, with a few key long‑haul connections such as Lisbon, Istanbul, and Doha. The airport features two asphalt runways, including a major 3,660‑meter strip capable of supporting wide‑body aircraft, and a modern international terminal opened in 2010 that expanded capacity to around 900,000 passengers per year. As Mozambique’s main international entry point, MPM plays a central role in the country’s connectivity, tourism, and economic development.
