Armenia is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus, situated in the Armenian Highlands and bordered by Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. Its landscape is dominated by rugged mountains, volcanic massifs, deep valleys, and high plateaus, with Mount Aragats rising to 4,090 m, the nation’s highest point. The capital, Yerevan, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, tracing its origins to the fortress of Erebuni (783 BCE). Armenia is also notable for being the first state to adopt Christianity as its official religion around 301 CE, a tradition still reflected in the prominence of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Today, Armenia has a population of about 3.1 million, a unitary parliamentary republic, and a cultural identity shaped by its ancient heritage, mountainous geography, and enduring Christian legacy.
