About

Nepal is a landlocked South Asian country situated along the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain range, bordered by India on three sides and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region to the north. Its territory stretches roughly 800 km east–west and 90–150 km north–south, encompassing dramatic geographic diversity—from the fertile Indo‑Gangetic plains to forested hills and the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest. The capital and largest city is Kathmandu, and the nation is home to about 30–31 million people. Nepal transitioned from a monarchy to a federal democratic republic in 2008, following decades of political change. The country’s cultural landscape is rich and varied, with Hinduism as the majority religion and Nepali as the official language, alongside more than 120 other languages spoken across its many ethnic groups.
