Mytilene International Airport Odysseas Elytis (MJT) serves as the main aviation gateway to the island of Lesbos, located about 8 km southwest of Mytilene, the island's capital. Established in 1948, the airport has grown from its early days with an unpaved 1,200 meter runway into a modern facility featuring a 2,406 meter asphalt runway and a compact terminal that handles both domestic and international flights. Over the years, significant upgrades including runway extensions, terminal improvements, and infrastructure investments following the 2015 privatization agreement with Fraport Greece have enhanced passenger services and operational efficiency. Today, the airport offers essential amenities such as a duty free shop, cafés, car rental agencies, and improved air traffic systems, supporting tourism and maintaining strong connectivity between Lesbos and major Greek cities.
