Weeze Airport (NRN), also known as Niederrhein Airport, is a small but important low cost international airport in Germany's Lower Rhine region, located about 70 km north of Düsseldorf and close to the Dutch border. Originally a former RAF Laarbruch airbase, it began civilian operations in 2003 and has since developed into a key hub for budget travel, serving around 1.95 million passengers in 2024 with a capacity of roughly 3.5 million annually. The airport is heavily dominated by Ryanair, offering more than 40 direct routes to popular leisure destinations across Europe and North Africa, including Spain, Morocco, Italy, Greece, and Portugal. Despite its modest size and single terminal, NRN provides essential services, duty free shopping, and straightforward transport links via shuttle buses connecting to nearby train stations in Weeze and Kevelaer, making it a practical gateway for travelers from both Germany and the Netherlands.
