Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminals.

After Security Smoking

There is at least one smoking area past security, unfortunately it is a lounge.

Lufthansa Senator lounge

Smoking here was confirmed on the 24th September 2017 by Charlie.

Terminal A:

Update from Holger, Jan 2020: Due to the nature of the main airport building (a hexagon with an open space in the middle), which is terminal A, each gate has its own check-in-, security- and waiting-area. Smoking is allowed outside and there are doors opposite of each check-in and security entrance area. The same applies to terminal B, which is a small annex to terminal A.
Both Lufthansa lounges (situated in terminal A above the main hall) have smoking rooms.

The public area where smoking is permitted is actually the visitors' terrace for which one has to go through extra security.

Location: Terminal A - Public area, 2nd floor. Open: Monday to Friday, 5.15 am to 9.15pm
