Taichung International Airport, also known as Taichung Ching Chuan Kang Airport, is a compact yet modern gateway serving central Taiwan, offering both domestic and international flights. Located in Taichung’s Shalu District, the airport operates as a joint civilian–military facility and features a recently modernized terminal equipped with duty‑free shops, restaurants, cultural exhibits, and convenient passenger services. Its strategic location—about 40–50 minutes from Taichung’s city center and High-Speed Rail station—makes it an appealing entry point for travelers heading to destinations like Sun Moon Lake or exploring central Taiwan. Originally built as a military airbase during Japanese rule, it transitioned to civilian use in 2004 and was officially promoted to international airport status in 2017. Today, it connects Taichung with major cities across East and Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam.
