VTE does have a smoking lounge in the (very small) international
terminal, pic attached!
For connecting flights you must leave the terminal and enter Laos and smoke outside terminal then go through Security again for your flight.
Wattay International Airport (VTE) is the main international gateway to Laos, located about 3 km from central Vientiane, making it one of the most conveniently placed capital city airports in Southeast Asia. It operates both domestic and international flights and serves as the primary hub for Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway, handling over 1.3 million international passengers per year, which accounts for roughly 65% of Laos' international air traffic . The airport features two terminals, a 3,000 meter runway capable of accommodating wide body aircraft like the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777, and essential traveler amenities such as ATMs, currency exchange, restaurants, lounges, and free Wi-Fi . As Laos' official eVisa entry point, Wattay offers dedicated immigration counters that streamline arrival procedures for electronic visa holders, supporting faster processing and smoother entry into the country . Its proximity to the city, availability of taxis, shuttle buses, and ride hailing services, and its modernized terminal facilities make it an efficient and accessible airport for both tourists and business travelers.
