Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) is the second busiest airport in Laos and the main gateway to the country's UNESCO listed heritage city. Located about 4 km north of Luang Prabang's city center, it handles both domestic and international flights, connecting travelers to key regional destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Siem Reap, and Vientiane. The airport currently operates a single terminal, but it is undergoing a major Public Private Partnership (PPP) upgrade that includes building a new international terminal, expanding the existing terminal for domestic flights, adding aircraft parking bays, modernizing facilities to international standards, and potentially enabling 24/7 operations. These upgrades expected to be completed by January 2026 aim to boost capacity beyond 1.5 million passengers annually, improve passenger processing, and strengthen regional connectivity, supporting the rapid growth of tourism in northern Laos.
