Notes

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China

Hong Kong is a vibrant, densely populated special administrative region of China, known for its striking skyline, deep water Victoria Harbour, and unique blend of Eastern and Western influences. It comprises Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, housing about 7.5 million residents within just over 1,100 square kilometres, making it one of the most crowded places in the world. Historically a British colony until the 1997 handover, it now operates under the "one country, two systems" framework, maintaining a high degree of autonomy and its own legal and economic systems. Hong Kong is also a major global financial hub, characterized by free trade, low taxation, and a service driven economy. Its subtropical climate, rich cultural heritage, and iconic attractions such as Victoria Peak and bustling street markets make it a dynamic and globally recognized city.
