Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminals.

Update from Sam on the 9th Sept 2019: Zhengzhou airport (CGO) has at least one smoking room in its Domestic Terminal, here is a photo I took today, as it said, it locates on the way to gate H15-H25.

International

For connecting flights you may need to enter China and smoke outside terminal then go through Security again for your flight.
