Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) is the largest and busiest airport in Hainan, serving the provincial capital Haikou and located about 19–25 km southeast of the city center. Opened in 1999 to replace the former Dayingshan Airport, it has since expanded into a major regional hub with dual terminals (T1 for most domestic flights and T2 for international and select domestic flights) and dual 3,600‑meter runways capable of handling wide‑body aircraft, including the Airbus A380. The airport handled 26.85 million passengers in 2025, ranking among China’s busiest airports, and operates an extensive network of 296 routes connecting 164 destinations across China and internationally. Its terminals feature modern commercial areas, duty‑free shopping, dining, and a connected airport hotel, while ground transport options include high‑speed rail, buses, taxis, and ride‑hailing, making it a well‑connected gateway to Hainan.
