Viracopos/Campinas International Airport (VCP) is one of Brazil’s fastest‑growing and most strategically important airports, serving the city of Campinas and functioning as a major component of the broader São Paulo air‑transport system. Located about 100 km northwest of São Paulo, it operates under Aeroportos Brasil and features a 3,240‑meter asphalt runway capable of handling large long‑haul aircraft. The airport is a major hub for Azul Brazilian Airlines and a key cargo gateway, moving more than 275,000 metric tonnes annually. In 2025 it handled over 12.8 million passengers and more than 124,000 aircraft operations, reflecting its rapid expansion and modernized terminal infrastructure. Its name—“Viracopos,” meaning “overturning glasses”—comes from a colorful early‑20th‑century local festival incident, adding a touch of regional folklore to one of Brazil’s most modern aviation facilities.
