Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF), located in the municipality of Confins near Belo Horizonte, is the primary international gateway for Minas Gerais and one of Brazil’s most important aviation hubs. Inaugurated in 1984 to relieve congestion at the city’s older Pampulha Airport, it was later renamed in honor of Tancredo de Almeida Neves, Brazil’s president‑elect who passed away in 1985. The airport is operated by BH Airport and features a long 3,600‑meter runway, a modern terminal, and capacity for over 20 million passengers per year. Although initially underused due to its distance from downtown, CNF grew rapidly after 2005 when most commercial flights were shifted from Pampulha, transforming it into a major hub for Azul and a key focus city for Gol.
