Taipei International Airport generally refers to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), the primary gateway to Taipei and the busiest airport in Taiwan. Located in Dayuan District about 40 km west of central Taipei, it handles the vast majority of the region’s international traffic and serves as a major hub for China Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux Airlines, and FedEx Express. Opened in 1979 as Chiang Kai‑shek International Airport and renamed in 2006, it features two large passenger terminals—both modern, well‑equipped, and connected by a free Skytrain—along with extensive dining, shopping, and transit options. The airport is known for efficient transport links, including the Airport MRT, which reaches Taipei Main Station in as little as 35 minutes.
