Osvaldo Vieira International Airport (OXB), also known as Bissau-Bissalanca Airport, is the only international airport in Guinea-Bissau. Located in the Bissalanca district near Bissau, it serves as the primary gateway for travelers entering and leaving the country. The airport features a single asphalt runway measuring 3,200 meters (10,499 feet) in length. Originally opened in 1955, it has undergone various transformations, including serving as a Portuguese Air Force base during Guinea-Bissau’s war of independence. Named after Osvaldo Vieira, a prominent nationalist commander, the airport has faced operational challenges, including limited infrastructure and occasional flight disruptions. Despite these hurdles, it remains a crucial hub for regional and international connections, with flights to destinations such as Senegal and Portugal.
