Smoking is permitted in the following area only: Uncovered parking lots.
Update from Hylas46, Jan 2022: There are two smoking areas at Honolulu Intl Airport, and one has a killer view. Although its on the sixth floor of the parking structure, there's a bench and its covered. Great sunsets. The other spot is right below, on the ground level. Not great, but not bad.
You must be at least 20 feet away from any door, window or ventilation duct to prevent passive smoking risk....
Unconfirmed update from Hylas, 22nd March
2019 (Email bounced): Smoking is allowed outside, in between the two
terminals. About a five minute walk from the furthest (United)
checkin. Past the intl gates. There is an area on the
ground level and one up on the top of the parking structure at the
corner nearest to the Domestic (Hawaiian Air) terminal.
Elevator nearby. Covered. Amazing view & sunsets.
Update from Robert K. on the 10th Sept 2018: Smoking only allowed
outside the Terminal in designated areas. There are no smoking
facilities after security.
For connecting flights you must enter Hawaii and smoke outside terminal then go through Security again for your flight.
